The mission of the Nevin Platt Middle School Library Media Center is to create a safe and inclusive environment in which all students feel a sense of belonging and support and are inspired by their learning, collaborate with others, and develop valuable 21st-century learning skills. 

We believe that:

• The school library collection should reflect and engage the diverse population which it serves - students should feel seen & heard
• All students should have equitable opportunities to pursue personal interests through reading, research, and hands-on experiences
• Students learn in different ways and need different types of support, including the furniture and design of the space
• Collaborations between the library and teachers, administrators, support staff, and families can promote student achievement
• The organization, evaluation and ethical use of information is essential to being a responsible citizen
• The creation of information is just as important as its consumption
• Technology opens the door to creative, global pursuits and future readiness

• If an item is lost, the Library accepts donations of $10 for the replacement cost or or any other amount that is feasible for a family. Link to pay in RevTrack or cash or check to Platt.
• We prefer students return books or replace books instead of money. Most often, the books turn up.

Students using Chromebooks in the Library are subject to BVSD Acceptable Use Policies.

1. Be kind to your device.

2. Please come to school with your device fully charged.

3. Bring your charger with you - we do not loan chargers.

4. If you have having issues with your device, see Ms. Schroeder in the Library.

5. If we need to send your device in to IT for repairs, we will do our best to provide you a loaner device. You will use the loaner until we receive your repaired Chromebook from either Ms. Schroeder or Mrs. Hughes.

6. If you forget your Chromebook, you may come to the library between 8:30-8:45 to see if there are any day loaners available. The loaner must be returned at the end of the day. 

7. You may be charged a fine for the repair of your Chromebook - depending on if it is under warranty or not. Ex. Screen repairs typically cost $20-$33 and the fine can be found in IC.

8. If you are interested in getting a protective Chromebook case, search "HP Chroembook G9 EE case" if your student is a current BVSD student in 2024 (not new to BVSD). You can also get this case on Amazon.

9. If your student is NEW to BVSD in 2024 as a 6th or 7th grader, search "HP Chromebook G10 case" or you can get this case on Amazon.

We received an Opportunity Fund Grant from Impact on Education for a subscription to Learning Ally, an audiobooks solution for students with dyslexia or impacted reading. Per our contract with Learning Ally, students qualify for access if they have at least one of the following: a reading deficit or "demonstrated learning disability", a visual impairment or a "physical disability that makes it difficult to take in a story using traditional print".

If your student falls under this qualification, please ask them if they have access to this tool. If they don't or cannot remember, please feel free to either email me or their LA teacher.

If your student does not have any of the qualifications, please know that the district has a digital and audiobook library called Sora which can be accessed through the student portal or my.bvsd.org. You can link the public library database to it for access to more titles. See instructions above.
