Safety and Security

Students need to feel safe to be able to learn. Boulder Valley School District is committed to keeping our school communities safe.

Safety for our Platt Community

At Platt Middle School and the CHOICE program, the safety of our students, faculty, and community are of the utmost of importance. Students need to feel both physically and emotionally safe to be able to learn and we know you trust us with the welfare of your children every day.

At the beginning of each new school year is the perfect time to review our safety practices. We discuss this information with all students during PACK Reset or Co-op. We would like for you to take a few moments to read the following and review this information with your students as well. For information on personal support and mental health resources, please view the Platt Counseling Personal Support Website.

See Something? Say Something!

It takes everyone working together to keep our students safe. BVSD provides a number of resources and programs aimed at protecting student personal safety and preventing children and youth from initiating or engaging in harmful behaviors including harassment.  Please see the BVSD Safety and Security website for additional information and resources.

We encourage everyone to alert and vigilant. If you hear of a possible threat or see something out of the ordinary, immediately contact your school administrator, BVSD Security or local law enforcement.

If you need to report a non-life threatening emergency such as vandalism, water line breaks or suspicious activity around a school, call the 24-Hour BVSD Security Dispatch at 720-561-5051 or 303-442-2400.

STANDARD RESPONSE PROTOCOL

In the event of an emergency, it is important that we all know what to do and where to go. We practice evacuation drills monthly and lock outs, lock downs, and shelter in place drills once a semester. In BVSD, we use the Standard Response Protocol district wide to create consistency and common practices from one school to the next. You can learn more about our practices at BVSD Safety and Security Website.
